Narcolepsy is a rare neurological condition caused by a protein in the brain. It is characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness, perhaps accompanied by catalepsy where you lose control of your muscles, uncontrollably falling asleep or suddenly realising that you have no memory of what you have just been doing. It is a chronic long-term condition. Sufferers may also experience hallucinations and sleep paralysis.
