Hypnosis and NLP are recognised therapy’s for dealing successfully with sleep disorders. International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis has reports of cases of narcolepsy successfully treated with hypnosis.

Narcolepsy is a rare neurological condition caused by a protein in the brain. It is characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness, perhaps accompanied by catalepsy where you lose control of your muscles, uncontrollably falling asleep or suddenly realising that you have no memory of what you have just been doing. It is a chronic long-term condition. Sufferers may also experience hallucinations and sleep paralysis.

  • It is important to see your GP. Narcolepsy can be a side effect of medication.
  • Other causes of excessive daytime sleepiness include Sleep Apnoea.

How I can Help With Narcolepsy

Many people with Narcolepsy have very successful careers and lives, but others experience isolation, anxiety, embarrassment and depression. I can also help you to combat these. There are a range of techniques that together can help you manage and reduce or get rid of Narcolepsy.

  • Self Hypnosis
Your mind knows how to stay awake and how to fall asleep and I can help you re-programme your mind to stay awake in the day time, and sleep at night. Learning Self Hypnosis will give you another tool to use if you start to feel sleepy.
  • Transform the Root Cause
By working with your sub conscious mind, I also can help you identify, resolve and transform the root cause.
  • Meditation
Meditation is very beneficial over the longer term as it will give you a method of progressively becoming more still, more focused, more present and more in charge of both your mind and body.
  • Isolation, anxiety, embarrassment and depression
Isolation, anxiety, embarrassment and depression are side effects of Narcolepsy that I can help you with.
  • Imagining a Brighter Future
When you are depressed and tired you tend to focus on the past, and the future is a blur. We can begin to create a future timeline that involves you doing things you love, being full of energy, successful, independent and resourceful. This helps the brain create new ‘memories’ and re-wire your brain.
  • Sleep Training
I will help you re-train your mind and body to focus on staying awake throughout the day and having a refreshing night’s sleep at night. Hypnotherapy can help you re-programme your unconscious mind to notice early onset of sleepiness and so that you can take action to stay awake. Combining this with Breathing Exercises and Self Hypnosis can give you another way to combat the sleepiness.
  • Meditation
as little as 10 minutes twice a day can be very beneficial as it will give you a method of progressively becoming more still, more focused, more present and more in charge of both your mind and body. I teach simple, modern forms of meditation – no need to shut out thoughts or sit in uncomfortable positions

There was an increase in the numbers of people suffering from Narcolepsy during the swine flu outbreak in 20019/10. New cases were being diagnosed every week in the UK and Northern Europe. This was linked to the Pandemrix vaccine,
